Captioning is great but not a good subtisute for one on one interaction in the classroom, limiting social skills of deaf children.

    Hi Michelle,

Hope you’re well since our last contact. We agree, captioning is great, and is best used when children also have the chance to use their social skills. In some cases, captioning can increase social interaction and group discussion by showing spoken dialogue on a laptop, tablet PC or a large screen in a room, to enable a topic to be discussed.

As captioning devices get smaller (iPhones, netbooks, Nintendo game consoles), we anticipate greater uptake of this learning-support option.
