TeachNet Blog: Closed Captions In The Classroom

Attendees of the CESI 2012 conference last February, will recall the live captions that were requested by Sound Advice’s Caroline Carswell, to facilitate her access to the sessions – and to give a live demo in her own presentation.

Live Captions Retained A Full Day At CESI 2012

The CESI organisers arranged these live captions for the morning – from which a transcript was web-cast online. This web-cast was so popular with conference followers online, that the captioners were retained for a full day.

TeachNet, the online portal that encourages Irish teachers at primary and second-level to publish quality digital content online, has reviewed Sound Advice’s CESI presentation in its blog, with very positive views on the live-captions.

On reading this piece, it is fantastic to see other teachers as excited by the potential of captioning in classrooms, and to know they also see the value and possibilities it offers as a very practical support in inclusive classrooms.
