Bilingual, Spoken Language At Home And School

Teachers of the deaf are usually tasked with developing their pupils’ English. The deaf preschoolers in this story are bilingual both in spoken English, and in their spoken family language at home (not every household uses English).

Read: Being a teacher of the deaf at Clarke Mainstream Services

This teacher runs a preschool whose pupils learn language and social skills before moving to mainstream school with a visiting teacher. As she says, “I don’t think there’s anything more beautiful than hearing a deaf child sing.”

  2. Hearing-devices worn
  3. Early language intervention
  4. A whole-family approach
