The Number Board: A Multi-Sensory Maths Tool

Deaf children can find mathematics challenging in terms of the vocabulary, language, and the need to understand new concepts. A solution has come to our attention: The Number Board, from Galway-based Wesco Ireland.

What’s really clever, is that the Number Board is interactive whiteboard-compatible and has corresponding software for multi-sensory learning.

The Number Board is available in two “activity kits”, one for 1st & 2nd class, and another for 3rd to 6th class. Both kits have 15 high-density EVA boards, with 1-100 numbered squares on one side, and a multiplication square on the other, with pegs, cubes, game cards and teachers’ guides included.

Benefits of the Number Board include its flexibility for children with varied needs, its role in developing home-school links (essential for parents of deaf children) and its value in engaging children to learn mathematical language.

Visit the Wesco Ireland website for details, or email pat<at>wescoireland.ie, mentioning that you saw the Number Board mentioned on this website.
